The Journey to Becoming a Spelling Bee Champion

Register

To register for the Kenya National Spelling Bee Championship; Visit the register now section of the Kenya National Spelling Bee website to register as an individual or as a group. The registration is open to all Grade 4 – 8 Pupils.

Teacher Training

The Head of English Panels from all participating schools will be invited for a sensitization and capacity building workshop that will be held in all the Counties to train them on the best ways to incorporate the Spelling Bee in their English lesson plan and how to conduct Internal School Spelling Bee championships and KNSB qualifier tests.

Preliminary Round

All Grade 4 to Grade 8 pupils who register for the Spelling Bee Championship will undertake a written test so as to identify the top 3 Spellers who will be representing the SCHOOL at the Sub-County Championships. All participating Schools will be expected to conduct internal school spelling bee contests to prepare the pupils who will represent them at the Sub-County Championships. Each participating school will be allowed three (3) participants to represent them at the Sub-County Championships.

Sub-County Championships

The top 3 Learners who pass the written test from each of the participating schools will meet in their various sub-counties for the Sub-County Spelling Bee Championships which aims at getting the top 3 spellers in all the sub-counties in Kenya. The top 3 spellers from each Sub-County will proceed to represent their Sub-County at the County Championships.

County Championships

The top 3 spellers from each of the sub-counties will meet in their various Counties for the County Spelling Bee Championships which aims at getting the top 3 spellers in all the 47 counties in Kenya. The best 3 spellers from each County will proceed to represent their County and School in Season 3 of the Spelling Bee TV Show.

National Championship

In a TV Show that will be watched by millions of viewers, the best three Spellers from every County will battle it out for the Grand Prize and Title of the Kenya National Spelling Bee CHAMPION! A total of 141 pupils from all the 47 Counties will pit their spelling skills against each other for the chance to be crowned the Best Speller in Kenya. The Best 3 spellers will represent the Country at the African Spelling Bee Championship.

African Championship

The African Spelling Bee Championship bring together the best 6 spellers from Primary and Secondary Schools from all over Africa for the African Spelling Bee Championship. Kenya will be represented by the top three Kenya National Spelling Bee Champions who will face spellers from over 22 African Countries.
